Scotland's People: "RCE" (Register of Corrected Entries) indicator:

The following are a series of emails on the Fife mailing list of Rootsweb, concerning the "RCE" indicator on some search results pages.(I have removed the names of the authors)

Subject: [FIF] Register of Corrected Entries
To: sct-fife@rootsweb.com

I have just obtained a Death Record for one of my SCOTT connections and he died in an accident in 1949. At the end of the cert. is a note to see the RCE for further details. I had a look around sp's site but couldn't see any immediate connection to the RCE's. Does anyone have any ideas where to find it?

------------------------------

When you view the death entry look at the top of the window. There should be three buttons. A blue one "View Page Before (5 credits)", a green one "View Page After (5 credits)" and a brown one "View RCE (2 credits)". It's only there if there is a RCE for that entry.

------------------------------

And if the RCE button does not show or in my case where it showed but downloaded a completely different persons RCE (now that was confusing :-) do contact scotlandspeople as they were very helpful and sent the correct one If memory serves it was 2 credits extra for the RCE

------------------------------

My understanding of the Scotlandspeople site (assuming thats where you found the Death Record) is that where there's an associated RCE you should be able to link to it (for 2 further credits) from the Death Record. It should appear as an option when you are viewing the Death Record.

However, I had a recent example where the link to the RCE wasnt in place. When I queried this with Scotlandspeople they explained that in a number of cases there is a fault and the link just isnt there, although it should be. They resolved my particular case for me. Suggest you do the same - contact Scotlandspeople via the "contact us" option and explain your particular problem, asking for access to the relevant RCE.

------------------------------

Yes, there is a link at the bottom of the page of the rce, or the 'normal' record you get to first, where you can contact them. In all the cases that I've had where there has been an error on the records, I've contacted them via the bottom of the page. They have always replied within 48 hours, and have usually tried to find me the correct document. Then they either send it to your email free, or credit your account 6 credits. They are always great to deal with (well, my experience anyway)
